Art comes in many forms - including food!

Gastronomy - the art and science behind what we put on our plates. Food is arguably one of the most famous forms of art, transcending geographic and cultural boundaries. People all over the world use food as a canvas for their art; from Michelin star chefs to our very own local hawkers. And the best part? You don’t have to be a critic to appreciate these art pieces!

For this month’s Gallery Editorial, join us as we explore two restaurants that combine elements of both art and food to deliver an all-rounded experience for its customers. In this special two-part gallery edit, let us first visit Arteastiq Tea Lounge at The Mandarin Gallery, #04-14/15.

1) How was Arteastiq Tea Lounge's concept developed? What was behind the idea of combining art jamming and tea?

The name “Arteastiq” itself is a combination of the words “artistic” and “tea”. Arteastiq Tea Lounge’s concept derived from combining art and tea where people can step back from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and come to a place that allows them to unwind in elegance and luxury, over a pot of exquisite tea – having their own piece of sanctuary in the heart of Orchard. Arteastiq vows to tell art connoisseurs endless stories of art while sipping on our range of artisanal teas.

2) Why the specific focus on artisanal tea?

Artisanal tea is more than just being an exclusive blend or a fine harvest tea, it is an art as well as a way of life. Artisanal tea is best savoured while awakening all your five senses, inhale the aroma, take a slow sip to allow the aromas and flavour notes to hit, and enjoy every detail of each sip!

3) From the wide range of artisanal tea available at Arteastiq Tea Lounge, which would you recommend as the most unique? How would you describe the flavours, and what makes it one of the most unique artisanal tea available at your outlet?

The most unique tea would be Arteastiq’s Signature Lychee Oolong Tea. When brewed together, it is a magical combination of fruity elements of the lychee and the earthy notes of the Oolong tea. How this tea was discovered was when the founder, who was exposed to the Gong Fu Tea ceremony from a young age had accidently dropped a piece of lychee fruit into his teacup, and when he took a sip, he fell in love with its flavour and thus, inspired him to recreate that taste and aroma, giving birth to the Jewel of Teas – Arteastiq’s Signature Lychee Oolong Tea.

4) What is the best way of drinking tea?

The best way of drinking tea would be to have the teas individually brewed. Arteastiq Tea Lounge has a wide range of artisanal teas for you to take your pick!

5) In one sentence, describe what a good cup of artisanal tea means to you?

The quality of the leaves with the right brewing timing is the key to a good cup of tea.

Time to make plans for a therapeutic and fun art jamming session while enjoying a nice cup of tea at the Arteastiq Tea Lounge at The Mandarin Gallery, #04-14/15.

Stay tuned for part two, as we explore another restaurant that takes pride in putting art on its plates!
